We welcome applications for this key post from those with the relevant research and teaching experience in the area of surface engineering coating manufacturing methods, with the ability to set up and run large and small research projects, doctoral and MSc projects, and academic and industrial collaborations.

About the Role

The role focuses on materials and coating systems for application in extreme, high temperature, environments for aerospace and energy sectors. A major activity is the development of high temperature surface engineering and coating solutions, including corrosion-resistant coatings, environmental and thermal barrier coatings, and such from the material development stage to prototype component manufacture. The research activities will include the successful submission of funding bids in an independent capacity and the successful management and delivery of projects, alongside effective dissemination of project outcomes through high quality publications in international scientific journals.

About You

You will have a PhD in a Materials Science/Engineering or Chemistry field, with experience in surface engineering (experimental and/or modelling) and/or vapor phase coating manufacturing methods (i.e. CVD, ALD, PVD). You will also have a proven track record of research in some aspects of coating chemistry and surface engineering, evidenced by high-profile publications in top peer reviewed journals, books and research reports. A demonstrable ability to secure and deliver research projects from research councils (or international equivalents), governmental bodies and industry is also essential in this role. With a sound knowledge of surface engineering practice, the manufacture of coating systems and the application of surface engineering as part of the manufacturing supply chain, you will also have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
