Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary: UH7 - £36,333 to £43,155 pa dependent on skills and experience

Annual Leave:  35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year.

The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science - Department of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Civil Engineering Materials or a related subject area, to support our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Civil Engineering & Built Environment subject areas. The applicant would ideally have specific knowledge and experience as outlined below.

Main duties and responsibilities

For this role you will take a leading responsibility for the delivery of teaching and learning in the School of Engineering and Computer Science and make a significant contribution to the research, commercial and administrative activities in the School. This will entail the undertaking of teaching and assessment in engineering modules, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in Civil Engineering Materials. In addition to this you will have a leading role in learning through the development of course materials, including online content, as well as undertaking necessary administrative, tutorial and laboratory activities.

You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the research and commercial interests of the School and develop short courses, commercial and KTP related activities in the School. Engaging in research and commercial consultancy activity in the relevant field and building partnerships with external organisations for the purpose of sponsorship and knowledge transfer activities will also be required.

Skill and experience required

You must have experience of working in one or more of the following areas: Low carbon footprint materials with an emphasis on cementitious and/or alternative binders, Cement chemistry, Sustainability and life cycle modelling (in relation to civil engineering materials), High performance construction materials and/or Numerical modelling of microstructural processes in construction materials. You must also show a track record of research publications and/or industrial sector experience.

You will have a strong commitment to teaching, learning and student support at University level and have the potential and willingness to attract external funding. You will be able to demonstrate your proficiency in English Language, with excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition to this it will be expected that you will display a strong desire to enthuse and engage our students in the subject area and have a willingness to contribute to the wider development of Civil Engineering & Built Environment.

Qualifications required

You must hold a minimum of a first degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related subject area.
