The Division of Natural Sciences at the University of Kent is looking to appoint an exceptional and committed individual with significant experience in the field of Biosciences. The successful applicant will provide innovative and engaging teaching to students on programmes in Biology, Biomedical Science, and Biochemistry alongside, scholarship and/or professional practice in their area of specialism. We seek to appoint a suitable candidate with expertise in molecular and cellular animal biology.

You will prepare and deliver lectures, practical classes, small-group teaching, undergraduate and taught postgraduate research supervision and student support, and will have responsibility for setting and marking assessments and exams. The role will be particularly suitable for a scientist with postdoctoral research experience as well as teaching experience, who seeks to develop a stimulating career in university-level education and associated scholarship activity.

As Lecturer in Biosciences you can expect to be involved in:

  • Teaching biological sciences as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within established undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study, with the assistance of a mentor if required.
  • Plan resources for teaching laboratories within agreed budgets, ensuring that equipment is appropriate to the needs of research-led practical training in our degree programmes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and respond to students’ needs

What will you bring to the role?

  • A First degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline (thesis at least submitted)
  • Possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge to deliver and excellent standard of classroom and practical teaching in molecular and cellular animal biology at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Ability to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning
