Lecturer in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health

About the opportunity

This is an education and research position for an early career (Level A and or Level B) enthusiastic academic with a vision to establish an academic career pathway. Working closely with the Program Director of Indigenous Public Health and other members of the academic team, the position will have a role in teaching and academic administration of Indigenous public health units of study within the Sydney School of Public Health and Faculty of Medicine and Health, covering a variety of health and wellbeing topics.

You will also have the opportunity to build research, evaluation and community outreach work related to Indigenous public health or other areas within the Sydney School of Public Health (SSPH), with career mentoring and exciting professional development opportunities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Contribute to high-quality teaching and learning experiences (at undergraduate and postgraduate level) in Indigenous health and wellbeing disciplines within the Faculty of Medicine and Health
• undertake original and collaborative research
• maintain quality, standards, and excellence in all teaching and research activities and outputs.
• develop productive relationships, collaborations, and partnerships with external parties (including research partners, government bodies, and industry) which will ultimately contribute to improved outcomes for the profession, industry, and/or community.

About you:

• Tertiary qualifications in public health or in a related discipline focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and social and emotional wellbeing and/or culture
• willingness to enrol in a Master of Philosophy or PhD within the probationary period, if you do not already hold such a degree
• a well-developed understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, public health, social and emotional wellbeing and health promotion
• a desire to develop teaching skills in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, wellness and Public Health
• a demonstrated ability to provide specific support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
• availability to travel occasionally to undertake teaching or research in regional or rural locations
• willingness to contribute to collaborative, community-driven research projects related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and social and emotionalwell-being.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
