Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

The School of Creative Arts is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to be a core member of the teaching team in our International award-winning and highly regarded Animation area.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To teach technical direction techniques and software to 3D animation and visual effects students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

You will be expected to inspire and intellectually challenge our students, developing and delivering a high-quality teaching and learning experience, and ensuring the successful and effective day to day running of modules. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues and the Programme Leaders, in a collegiate and proactive academic team, to provide an excellent student learning experience.

The successful applicant will develop the students’ range of skills from research and development, through creative idea generation to final high-quality production. Working closely with colleagues you will ensure currency and creativity in teaching and learning, develop contacts and networks at the cutting edge of the subject and make a strong contribution to teaching and research in the School.

You will be expected to contribute to pastoral care of students and at least one of the following School priorities: international developments and global perspectives in the curriculum; equality, diversity and inclusion, research led teaching; interdisciplinary projects; employability and outreach.

Skills and Experience

You will have experience in teaching at Higher Education Level. You will also have experience of working in commercial 3D animation or Visual Effects production.

You must have knowledge of and ability to teach the current professional and commercial contexts for 3D digital animation and Visual Effects. You will also have expert level industry experience of using Maya and/or Houdini and one or more of the following: Python, C++, Unreal. You’ll also be able to create rigs for 3D characters and creatures, understanding modelling topology and UVs.

A track record of teaching and leadership on modules or courses and experience of curriculum development would be desirable.

You’ll have multimedia presentation skills, good communication skills and ability to work both autonomously as well as part of team. A willingness to contribute to inter-professional teaching and learning activities is essential.

Qualifications required

The post holder will be required to hold a relevant honours degree and will have significant industrial and academic experience.  A postgraduate qualification, teaching qualification or Research degree would be desirable.
