This new full-time role is available immediately on a fixed term basis until 09/03/2026. This will be a hybrid role based on our St Luke’s campus in Exeter, with the opportunity for flexible start and finish times.

The role

The post of Lecturer in Cancer Genomics will contribute to extending the research profile of genomics research at Exeter, particularly in areas related or complementary to the Cancer Genomics group lead by Prof. Chrissie Thirlwell.

The post will include developing independent research projects and securing funding to support this. Analysis of existing DNA sequencing and epigenome (DNA methylation) wide data will be undertaken alongside novel data that will be produced as through new projects. This includes cutting edge long-read sequencing using the nanopore platform. The post will involve close collaborative work with Prof. Tim Frayling and Prof Jon Mill’s groups in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences and also with external collaborators.

The successful applicant will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies and, in particular, will have experience in the analysis of genomic data. They must be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and contribute fully to team goals.

About you

For a Lecturer post you will have:

· A PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics or cancer related subjects and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research

· A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding

· An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research

· Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes

· Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners

· Involvement in projects which develop impact.
