Lecturer Design Theory and Context (0125-24)

Updated: 26 days ago
Location: Sunderland, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 28 Apr 2024

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Design team for a full-time permanent lecturer in design theory and context.

We’re seeking a professional with extensive knowledge of design theories, practitioners, key eras and events in design history, global challenges faced by designers, and issues around ethical design. The successful applicant will understand how to help students relate design theory and context to their own design practice and develop skills that will be valued by employers.

You will be able to deliver core theory skills and knowledge to all of our design students and make it feel relevant to each specialism. Specifically, you will deliver to students in animation and games art, illustration, fashion design and promotion and graphic design, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The successful applicant will stay abreast of new trends and professional practices across these subject areas to make sure their theory and contextual teaching stays relevant. They will also have some awareness of approaches to decolonising design.

What you can bring

You are a professional who can teach, assess, and provide constructive feedback on students work and give them direction to produce the best possible outcomes. You are a very strong communicator and ideally you will have some experience of teaching in higher education.

You have an awareness of artificial intelligence in its current and developing forms within the creative industries, and you will be able to help students navigate it’s legitimate and productive use within their theory and context work, while avoiding academic misconduct.

You will be responsible for module leadership of your modules both on campus and in transnational education (TNE) centres overseas (- but travel is not necessary).

For the right candidate, an exciting opportunity may be available at some point, to lead our highly successful MA Design degree programme.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 28th  April (23:59 GMT).

Interviews/assessments are likely to take place on Monday 13th  May 2024
