The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is looking for a Lecturer or Assistant Professor in Mathematics and Statistics.

The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing at Coventry University is one of the largest in the UK and is nationally and internationally renowned as a centre of innovation for its teaching, learning and research of computing subject areas. The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is one of three schools within the faculty and has a very successful suite of courses supported by excellent staff, teaching facilities and laboratories. The school is responsible for the development of a thriving portfolio of teaching and research.  We offer undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics, Mathematics and Physics, Physics, and Data Science. Our postgraduate courses include Data Science & Computational Intelligence and Data Science.

We are interested in expanding the mathematics, statistics, and physics team in the areas of:

  • Statistics
  • Engineering statistics
  • Data Science

The ability to teach 1st , 2nd and 3rd year modules on statistics is essential for the position. The ability to teach statistical aspects of data science at the post-graduate level and the 1st year general introductory mathematics modules is very desirable.

You will be responsible for the delivery and support of learning, teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will work closely with the course teams to help provide the high-quality learning environment our students expect.

Applicants will have a PhD in Statistics . Professional qualifications and/or memberships are welcome. Experience of working in higher education will be very useful and good programming skills are required. Proficiency in mainstream statistical software packages e.g. SPSS, R, Minitab is essential.

You will need to share our passion for delivering a positive student experience that puts excellence in teaching and learning at the heart of everything you do and will be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of your area of specialisation.

We envision that the successful candidate will be open to collaborations with our interdisciplinary research team. Our strengths lie in our ability to apply different methods to tackle curiosity-driven problem. The successful  candidate with an appropriate research record can join our  research Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling , or the research Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems. We favour candidates with research interests of scalable Machine Learning, Bayesian statistics, decision theory, computational Bayesian statistics, Statistical analysis of big and small datasets with applications to Environmental modelling and Functional data analysis applied to relevant real-world problems, Systems or Mathematical Biology, computational neuroscience, healthcare and biomedical engineering.
