About the role
We have an exciting new opportunity to join the Aerospace Research Group (Aero) at the University of Leicester. Aero is a welcoming and inclusive team undertaking interdisciplinary research that focuses on aerospace-related areas, including bioengineering, digital manufacturing, green energy and transport systems, and mechanics of materials. The group's work provides a sound independent base for world-changing research and research-inspired education in the field of aerospace engineering.
 
This post will specifically strengthen research and education in the areas of aircraft/rotorcraft design engineering, aircraft/rotorcraft systems, and spacecraft engineering design. A link with the Drones Laboratory at Space Park Leicester (SPL) is envisaged and the working location may be split between main campus and SPL for this purpose. You will be able to lead the design and delivery of the undergraduate module Integrated Engineering Design, which is shared among all BEng/MEng courses, with an air vehicle design challenge theme aligned to your research and mentor the University of Leicester student team entries to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and/or the Royal Aeronautical Society universities aircraft design challenge(s). Your aircraft design research activity will be facilitated by collaboration between the University of Leicester and the Leicestershire Aero Club, which provides access to grass and tarmac runways and currently hosts self-build aircraft projects from Club members.
About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic educator capable of inspiring interest, curiosity and drive for learning in our students. You will have a real passion for the subject matter and be motivated to provide the very best experience for our students using your expertise and skill to ensure all reach their potential.
We are interested in candidates with a PhD and/or postdoctoral experience, specifically within the areas of fixed wing aircraft design, rotorcraft design, aircraft systems design or certification and operation of experimental air vehicles. You should have an established reputation for research, with a high quality publication profile and be able to evidence your potentially fundable research ideas.
We anticipate that the ideal candidate will be able to start in this role between 1st July to 1st September 2024.
