Learning Environment Assistant

We are seeking to recruit two customer focused Learning Environment Assistants who will enable an inspiring and valued learning environment within the library for students, staff and visitors. We have two Term time only roles available, one is full time (35 hours per week, 39 weeks of the year) and the other is part time (20 hours per week, 39 weeks of the year).

As a Learning Environment Assistant you will:

  • Ensure that the physical stock of the Templeman Library is returned to the appropriate shelving location quickly and accurately to provide ease of access to library users
  • Support and manage processes surrounding self-service returns in order to manage the shared use of library collections for library users
  • Carry out stock checking, retrieval and relegation procedures to provide library users with easy access to a relevant collection of library materials
  • Assist library users to help them to find the library material that they need and to use the facilities and services offered within the Templeman Library
  • Ensure that Library Regulations are upheld, communicating to library users the importance of respecting the learning environment as a shared resource.
  • Help to design and foster accessible and inclusive learning environments and services that work for all student and staff groups

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Five GCSEs grade A/7-C/4 or equivalent, including Maths and English or equivalent work experience
  • Experience of working in a service environment with good interpersonal skills
  • Good collaborative working skills and the ability to work efficiently and accurately in a busy customer-facing environment
  • The confidence to address behaviours within the Library environment
  • A flexible, proactive and enthusiastic approach to work.

The Department

Information Services is comprised of six sections: IT Infrastructure, Enterprise Systems, Embedded IT and Technical Services, Development and Partnerships, User experience, Learning and Research Resources. 

Together they directly support all aspects of the university technological, teaching and library requirements.
