The Role and the Department 

  • Supporting the wider development and delivery of our school, community and student engagement programmes.
  • Supporting the Curator, Contemporary Art to deliver the University’s annual Summer in the City arts festival.
  • Continuing to develop and grow our school's engagement work using the Durham University Art Collection.
  • Continuing to develop and grow our public engagement work using the Durham University Art Collection including working with Durham University student groups to deliver art engagement programmes.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of the Durham University annual Student Art Prize
  • The candidate will work across multiple sites of the University’s Library and Collections, including the Bill Bryson Library, Oriental Museum, Durham Castle, Museum of Archaeology, Art Collection, Archives and Special Collections.
  • Travel required across the region
  • DBS enhanced check required
  • Some evening, bank holiday and weekend working maybe required as service demands.

Your application should cover the following criteria: 

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.   
  • Good digital skills including experience in using core digital tools including internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking system.  
  • Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.    
  • Experience of developing and delivering learning, engagement or community workshops and activities, preferably in an art, museum, archive, library or heritage setting. 
  • Experience of developing and delivering face-to-face curriculum focussed formal learning programmes.
  • Experience of developing and delivering digital asynchronous and synchronous online learning resources suitable for online and hybrid delivery
  • Demonstrable ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues including learners of all ages from infant upwards, community group leaders and teachers.   
  • Experience of working on the front line with service delivery, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.   
  • Ability to solve problems as part of a team and resolve straightforward issues. 
  • Experience of working as part of a team in a customer focussed service to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to community groups and school aged children.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role / environment. 
  • Evidence of relevant personal development to maintain skills.   
  • Desirable Criteria

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) 
  • Experience of developing creative and art focussed face to face and e-learning resources for schools and public audiences
  • Experience of developing creative events and art workshops.
  • Experience of working with SEND, vulnerable and non-traditional learners
  • Experience of supervising volunteers / temporary team members.
  • Experienced in delivering Arts Award programmes and Arts Award qualified
  • Relevant industry and professional recognition and certification of achievement of skills and knowledge, preferably relating to the art sector.
  • Full UK driving licence
