It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs.

Digital Services are responsible for the digital information, systems and technologies used by staff and students across The Open University.  Covering all aspects of digital technology at the OU, from sourcing and maintaining systems, through to providing frontline IT support for staff and students.

The role

The OU is recruiting a Lead Technical Developer.  

This position is based within the IT Delivery External Engagement Product Team which is responsible for the delivery of enhancements and new solutions which support the University’s key strategic priorities. As a Lead Technical Developer, you will focus on the technical leadership across our Microsoft .NET platforms supported in the team, putting your skills in developing digital products into practice.

On a daily basis you will guide and lead development efforts towards successful project delivery and BAU support. This will entail guiding the team to deliver change via DevOps models, to ensure service is supported and maintained alongside project delivery.

Skills and experience

This role will suit you if you:

  • Possess previous experience of working in a fast-paced Product Team, delivering transformational change and BAU support in a multi-disciplinary structure with technology partners.
  • Are experienced working in a modern .NET development environment.
  • Are highly motivated, with a positive attitude to work and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, able to express issues to other technical and non-technical people.
