The role

The consultant will be The Lead Midwife for Education (LME) at the Open University (OU) specifically for the OU’s Independent and Supplementary Prescribing Programme also known as Non-Medical Prescribing. The Lead Midwife for Education will work with our Lead for Non-Medical Prescribing to ensure adequate support for students who are registrant midwives.

The OU does not run pre-registration midwifery programmes and the consultant role is solely for the Non-Medical Prescribing module, a 60-credit level 7 module.

Once appointed the consultant will be listed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as the OU’s LME for this programme.

The consultant in this role will ensure that the OU meets regulatory requirements in alignment with the NMC requirements. 

The role of the LME is to help ensure that high standards in midwifery education are met.

The successful applicant will be able to undertake the role whilst working remotely but must be willing to travel to Milton Keynes or other locations if required.

Skills and experience

  • You should be an experienced practising midwifery teacher
  • Evidence of current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a registered midwife
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements in alignment with the NMC requirements
