Overview of the Role

The Lead for Academic Personal Tutoring works closely with the Head of Student Support to support and advise colleagues in the SES team, and support and train Academic Personal Tutors. They will also work in collaboration with the Directors of Student Education in the School of Medicine. They will inform and guide strategy on student wellbeing and support and assist with the oversight and management of the day-to-day operational aspects of student support provision within the School.

The Lead for Academic Personal Tutoring is part of the Student Support Team, School of Medicine, which consists of:

  • Student Education Service (SES) Support (including School Disability Officer)
  • Student Education Service (SES) Progress
  • Head of Student Support
  • Careers Officer

‘Front-of-house’ support is delivered by SES Support. The Head and Lead for Academic Personal Tutoring, support SES in this key function. This role will deliver enhanced strategic co-ordination of Academic Personal Tutoring and support for all students, within the School of Medicine.

These areas of responsibility require a pro-active approach together with liaison with colleagues across the School of Medicine (including the Placement Team, Programme Leads, Heads of Years and Director of Progress, NHS clinical disciplines within NHS Trust partners, and GP practices).

The School has an extensive programme of support for students, spanning student academic progression and success, wellbeing, career decisions, disability and health. Support for international students is a key part of the student support network, across MBChB, TPG and CUPS programmes within the School.
