Law Clinic Lead

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Location: Birmingham, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 15 May 2022

Aston Law School’s mission is to be distinctive, combining academic rigor with practical insight, for ‘future ready’ LLB and LLM graduates.  We do so as The Guardian’s University of the Year 2020, with Gold TEF status, a nationally recognised law clinic and as one of the leading UK universities for Entrepreneurship and Social Mobility.

We are an independent law school within the same College as, and with strong links to, the world-renowned Aston Business School.  We formed our Business Law Clinic in 2018 and it makes an important contribution to our students and their development of the mindset and skills required by twenty-first century employers.

We have plans for our strategic growth that involve the development of our Clinic which currently provides placement year experience for up to 20 students over a 26-week programme. Clients are referred to the Clinic from a variety of established sources.  Our work tends to focus on commercial contracts, IP rights and corporate structures includes proactive workshops to local business communities as well as advising business clients. We would like to expand the scope of the Clinic whilst retaining its distinctive business focus, and in due course to recruit further supervisors (we have strong relationship with a number of law firms) and administrators.  We are also excited at the prospect of developing an academic research dimension to the Clinic’s work that will inform local policy on business support and the future direction of the Clinic and the School.

This role provides the successful candidate with the chance to lead the Clinic to the next level and beyond; it also brings an important teaching dimension to our friendly, supportive and vibrant community of legal scholars.  If you want to make a difference to our students’ legal education, the development of their skills and mindset so as to be ‘future ready’ on graduation, and to develop your contribution to our distinctive offering, we would like to hear from you.

Anonymous shortlisting will be carried out for this role as part of Aston University’s commitment to equality and diversity and ensuring a fair and consistent approach to recruitment. Personal details that are included on application forms, including the candidate’s name and address will not be disclosed to the shortlisting panel. We kindly ask that candidates do not send CVs or cover letters as these will not be considered.
