Language Assistant in Japanese

We are looking for a Japanese Language Assistant for a fixed-term, 12 month contract at UE06 to cover a temporary absence. The successful candidate will be required to teach within the framework of the School’s courses in Japanese, including the MA Japanese programmes and Open Languages provision.

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be required to teach within the framework of the School’s courses in Japanese at all undergraduate levels, and to fulfil other tasks, such as setting and marking assignments.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in teaching and/or tutoring within the higher education sector.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • a relevant first degree (at least 2.1 or equivalent), evidence of fluency or near-fluency in Japanese, and fluency in English
  • experience in teaching Japanese as a foreign language, and demonstrable success in delivering effective university teaching
  • ability to apply relevant knowledge, skills and techniques in teaching
  • a proven record of ability to manage time, to work to strict deadlines and to work effectively as a member of a teaching team
  • excellent interpersonal skills
