About the role

The role of Landscape & Sports Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operational aspect, maintenance and improvements, of all outdoor sports facilities at the University of Bath 

The Department of Sports Development and Recreation at the University of Bath seeks to create impact through sport, by maximising its unique environment every day for every customer.

The Department manages and organises a range of activities under the University’s sports brand - Team Bath - and aspires to create a world leading multi-sport environment delivering to elite athletes, staff and students of the University and the local and regional community.  Based in the inspiring £35m Sports Training Village, the Department offers a wide range of high quality sports activities, programmes, events, services and facilities catering for all ages and abilities.

In addition, we are recognised by UK Sport as one of only six Elite Training Centres, providing the training base for around 250 international level athletes. This is an opportunity to become part of a professional and progressive organisation at the leading edge of sport, health and fitness.

This includes not only the 11 grass pitches but also its running track, two astros pitches, a beach volleyball area, outdoor tennis courts (including two clay courts) and the iconic Push Start Track used by the British bobsleigh and skeleton squads. In addition, this summer we will be installing a 3G pitch, with sustainable infill alongside a Multi-Use Games Area. 

Leading a small team in planning and implementing all soft landscaping service delivery and related health and safety, supervision and work planning for external sports grounds and pitches, ensuring an efficient and effective service that provides this world class University with a well maintained, attractive and ecologically sensitive landscape and sports pitches.  

The post holder will have overall responsibility for the teams’ service provision, customer service approach and management of HR/staff related issues. The role is ‘hands on’ and expected to work alongside the team. 

Ideally candidates will be able to demonstrate previous experience in similar roles, encompassing sports and general groundsmanship alike. They will have sound knowledge of horticultural methods and practices and skills in operating relevant machinery and vehicles.

They will have experience of people management and be excellent communicators, as well as demonstrable understanding of customer service and managing budgets and Health and safety, including risk assessment.
