About us

University College London (UCL) is a leading global university. In our biggest development since we were founded, UCL has recently expanded to the new UCL East campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL) is the largest academic entity at UCL East, with nearly 2000m2 of new research and collaboration space. The MFL is a cross-faculty hub, bringing together 15 academics from the UCL departments of Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry.

About the role

The main purpose of the job is to develop practical laboratory-based training modules related to downstream bioprocess operations and associated analytical techniques. The role is part of the RESILIENCE UK Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Medicines Manufacturing which is a collaborative activity between the University of Birmingham, UCL, Heriot Watt and Teesside Universities. The role will involve designing and implementing training courses for a wide range of individuals working in the industrial, academic and healthcare sectors as well as engaging in teaching and outreach activities to schools and colleges. It will also involve the use of Virtual Reality technologies to support and enhance training delivery. Industrial courses will be delivered as part of our established MBI Training Programme which has an award-winning track record of delivering modular training to international bioindustry companies.

About you

The postholder should have experience working in a teaching and/or research laboratory and particular expertise in key downstream processing approaches, i.e., filtration, centrifugation, chromatography etc. They should also have expertise in relevant analytical techniques such as molecular biology (PCR, RT-PCR), protein biochemistry (immunocytochemistry, immunoblotting, ELISA), and colorimetric assays. They should also have significant technical experience in the design, operation and maintenance of related laboratory equipment and instruments and their use. They should also have experience of safety management and experience of the management and training of others in a laboratory environment.
