The Rosalind Franklin Institute is a national research centre, funded by the UK government through UK Research and Innovation, dedicated to bringing transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology. 

We are seeking a laboratory technician to join the Rosalind Franklin Institute in a full-time capacity. You will join a team of support scientists to help maintain an excellent level of service across the Structural Biology laboratories of the institute. Responsibilities will include fundamental aspects of laboratory support (ordering, waste management, media preparation etc.) as well as more specialist technical tasks (instrument maintenance, cell and tissue culture, health, and safety reviews etc.) Appropriate training will be provided where relevant. Your work will help the institute deliver on its goal of world leading research in the physical and biological sciences. 


Responsibilities

You will:

  • Assist with general lab operations including maintaining a clean, safe and well-stocked working environment.
  • Carry out safe disposal of laboratory waste, including operation of glass washing machines and autoclaves.
  • Prepare of common laboratory materials (stock reagents and aliquots).
  • Assist in maintenance of scientific equipment and assessment/procurement of new instrumentation.
  • Write and updating risk assessment (RA) and standard operating procedure (SOP) documents, as well as train users on safe and effective working practices.
  • Maintain appropriate records of laboratory activities. Where required, provide data for, or contribute to reporting including publications and scientific presentations.
  • Support for basic protein purification activities.
