Genome Biology Unit (GBU) is a core facility affiliated to Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences (HiLIFE) and Biocenter Finland (BF) and situated in Biomedicum Helsinki. Our services include distribution, cloning and modification of genome wide cDNA, shRNA and gRNA library clones to academic researchers as well as digitalization of microscopy samples using a high throughput digital slide scanner.

We invite applications for the position of a

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

for a fixed term period of two years from 1.1.2022 until 31.12.2023.

We are looking for a laboratory technician to participate in the established services of the core unit, described above, including both laboratory work and customer consultation, as well as in research and development related tasks. Also, some supervision and teaching responsibilities are part of the job. The GBU team consists of three technicians who work in a close proximity of research groups providing a larger co-worker community.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

A successful candidate has a higher vocational diploma or a master's degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent. Excellent skills in basic molecular biology techniques and experience in culturing genetically modified bacteria is mandatory. Ability to work independently and with precision is essential, as all our services need to meet the high standards of our clients. We highly value a genuine interest in basic research. Successful implementation of your tasks will require technical prowess, independent problem solving ability, excellent communication skills and capability for teamwork with researchers coming from different backgrounds.

Preferred but not essential skills include experience in bright-field and fluorescence microscopy as well as mammalian cell culture and BSL2 level gene transfer methods. Knowledge on CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing is beneficial. We welcome also all skills on programming and data management, especially fluent use of the Filemaker system is a plus.
