Applications are invited for a Laboratory Manager based within the Hopkinson Laboratory at the Department's central Cambridge site.

The Hopkinson Laboratory accommodates the experimental activities for the Energy, Combustion and Fluid Mechanics Groups. It supports both the teaching and research activities of these groups and the laboratory facilities currently amount to around 800m2. The laboratory includes a number of highly sophisticated laser-based experimental facilities for investigations into combustion, a state-of-the-art facility for IC research, and recently a rapidly growing experimentally-based activity for novel carbon nano-tube production and measurement.

You will provide management of the research laboratory and staff to facilitate smooth and effective support for teaching and research, providing specialist technical support to research and teaching staff to ensure the delivery of research projects on time and to budget. You will have responsibility for managing budgets for the purchase of consumables, equipment and solutions to support experimental activity and will also oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment.

You will report through the Head of Design and Technical Services to the Head of Division and will work closely with academics staff and students.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing laboratory facilities and staff to support research. You will have hands-on experience of specialised laboratory activity and equipment as well as high-quality skills and knowledge of relevant regulations and practice. You will be educated to degree level or a level 6 vocational qualification or possess an equivalent level of practical experience.
