FIMM is currently seeking a Laboratory Coordinator for High Throughput Screening Operations

FIMM High Throughput Biomedicine (HTB) team is looking for a new laboratory coordinator to manage the laboratory, support assay development and day-to-day operations in a laboratory focused on high throughput compound screening in the field of personalized medicine research.

The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute focusing on human genomics and personalized medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki. Position description:
The High Throughput Biomedicine (HTB) unit of the FIMM Technology Centre performs high throughput bioassays, mainly cell-based or biochemical compound screening. The unit supports research at University of Helsinki and functions as a national and international infrastructure platform for academic researchers. The laboratory coordinator will be working independently as well as closely with HTB researchers and staff. The primary activities of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Laboratory maintenance including ordering and managing inventories
• Equipment maintenance including user training
• Experimental work
• Method and protocol development
• Standard operation procedure (SOP) development and management
• Interacting with customers in the laboratory

Qualification and experience:

We would prefer the candidate to have a Master’s degree in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, biomedical laboratory science, engineering, or a related discipline, but will also consider other applicants with appropriate work experience. The position requires a strong track record in laboratory maintenance, cell culture, biochemical, molecular or cellular techniques and assay development. Experience in following is beneficial: handling of clinical samples, flow cytometry, laboratory automation, high-throughput screening and quality control. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent problem solving and analytical skills and is able to work systematically and independently. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and communication skills, and a service-minded attitude. Salary & contract:

The salary is based on the job requirement scheme for specialist and support staff according to the salary system of the Finnish universities. The requirement level of the position is 7. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. In total, the gross starting salary is about 2500-2800 EUR per month depending on the qualifications and merits of the applicant. A contract will be offered initially to the end of 2024. Extension beyond this is possible depending on the availability of funding.
