We are seeking an enthusiastic Laboratory and Phenotyping Technician to provide a cross team service in the clinical pathology lab at our Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire.
Do you have:
- A levels or equivalent in Biological or Biomedical Sciences
- General laboratory experience
- Experience handling blood samples and running semi-automated analysers
- Knowledge and an interest in biological sciences
The Mary Lyon Centre is the national facility for mouse genetics!
Our activities focus on applying mouse genetics, transgenesis and phenotypic screening to investigate mammalian gene function at a systems level. We are working with new genome editing technologies, which are allowing us to introduce genetic variants, especially those seen in human patients, as well as generating new mouse strains for preclinical and discovery research. We are also involved with the development and application of a number of new automated phenotyping tests, including those involving video and auditory analysis. Main duties include:
- Care and operation of all equipment including Beckman Coulter AU680, Advia2120, FLUOstar Optima plate reader and RAPID Lab 348EX blood gas analyser.
- Processing of samples for analysis.
- Carry out in-vivo phenotyping assays such as blood sampling, recording metabolic activity and body composition measurements in mice.
- Work under the Animals (Scientific Procedure) Act 1986 to ensure high standards of animal care and welfare whilst carrying out scientific procedures.
