Laboratory Manager, Behavioural Research Laboratory

Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, Manchester, UK

Applications are invited for the post of Lab Manager of the Behavioural Research Laboratory at Alliance Manchester Business School.  The post is tenable immediately for a period of two years.  The role is an exciting opportunity to run the laboratory and contribute to its future development, becoming part of a range of research projects spanning diverse applications of behavioural science to business and management. The primary responsibilities of the post are to help researchers in AMBS and the wider Faculty of Humanities to run experimental studies and collect behavioural data for world-class research using the new Behavioural Research Laboratory (https://www.alliancembs.manchester.ac.uk/about/our-campus-and-facilities/behavioural-research-laboratory/).

You must have a PhD or equivalent in the behavioural sciences or a related field (e.g., psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science).  You must have experience of undertaking and/or supporting experimental research leading to the production of internationally recognized research outputs in the behavioural sciences. Your expertise should include experimental research design and you will have technical skills for conducting behavioural and psychophysiological experiments, including the use of psychophysiological measures (especially eye tracking, electrodermal activity/GSR, ECG, EEG, and HRV).  You will be comfortable using advanced software for programming, data collection and data analysis (e.g., Matlab, R, Python/MNE, iMotions).  You will have excellent communication skills and a track record of upholding high ethical standards in behavioural research.  The ability to work independently on research duties and projects is essential.

Alliance Manchester Business School is one of the world’s leading research-led business schools and you will work in the newly remodelled AMBS building in Manchester (https://www.alliancembs.manchester.ac.uk/about/our-campus-and-facilities/). AMBS academics undertake leading-edge research in behavioural decision making and behavioural economics, behavioural strategy, entrepreneurship, marketing, organizational behaviour, and management science. As the Lab Manager, you will work with academics across these areas to run innovative, high-quality research studies. Using your background in behavioural science and experimental methods, you will work with researchers on data collection and analysis.  You will manage the daily running of research studies in the lab, including recruiting participants, managing and developing the lab’s hardware and software (including set-up of equipment for studies and developing new technical capabilities for innovative research applications).  You will also collaborate with colleagues on developing the internal and external profile of the lab to build a network of researchers that will facilitate new projects and studies, including potential collaborations with commercial partners.
