Are you a young and motivated Biologist, with research interest in bioacoustics, specifically in sound communication in insects? If so, this could be the post for you.

We are looking for a Lab Assistant/Technician to join the Bioacoustics and Sensory Biology Lab, in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. You will be part of a new interdisciplinary research group with the freedom to work on an exciting project for an extended period. The post is funded by an NERC grant awarded to the Professor of Sensory Biology, entitled ‘Multidisciplinary approach to bioacoustics: Integrating phylogenomics, biophysics, and functional genomics to unravel the evolution of hearing and singing in katydids, crickets, and allies’. By intersecting engineering, mathematics, neuro- and comparative biological approaches, this interdisciplinary project is designed to unveil mechanical and biophysical adaptations of the katydid ears using living and fossilised specimens.

The project will involve various responsibilities, including the maintenance of insect colonies, organisation of lab equipment, processing consumable orders, and the use of Laser Doppler Vibrometry, Micro-CT scanner, and 3D printing.

The Sensory Biology Lab offers a dynamic research environment and facilities, and you will have the opportunity to be a member of a multi-disciplinary group working closely together on a defined problem, applying techniques from fields as diverse as acoustics, electro-physiology, hearing, applied mathematics, and biophysics.

This exciting role has excellent opportunities for ongoing career development and progression. If you would like to know more, please contact Prof. Fernando Montealegre-Z, Professor of Sensory Biology, at [email protected] .

In support of our commitment to developing colleagues by providing opportunities for internal movement and promotion, applications for this opportunity will only be accepted from people who are currently employed by the University of Lincoln. We actively encourage applications from all colleagues across the University with the relevant skills and experience.
