The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a researcher to join our exciting collaboration with Whetman Plants International Limited. Based at Whetman’s offices and nursery in Hampreston,  Wimborne, Dorset, you will have a unique opportunity to take a central role in the development of in-house expertise to allow the propagation of trees using cuttings to speed up time to market and to meet increasing demand. The project will have 2 main areas of focus: understanding the needs of the trees and the way that they differ across species and then testing a pharmaceutical solution to these needs.

This will be an exciting opportunity for you to carry out a high-profile Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project within a specific timeframe, fully supported by the University.

A BSc in a science-related subject and a PhD (or close to completion of PhD) in plant or tree biology or a related topic are essential requirements.

As a people-orientated individual, you will have the ability to influence and engage collaboratively between the team members at Whetman’s and the University’s academic team. As a proactive individual, you will have the enthusiasm and motivation to organise your own time effectively and have a flexible approach to prioritising tasks and work. Through the KTP, you will be given the support and mentoring you need to nurture your talent. You will have your own budget for training and Continuing Professional Development to help you develop your current skillset and reach your personal and professional career goals.

You will be employed by the University of Nottingham, but will be based at Whetman Plants International in Dorset, working directly with senior company staff, as well as receiving additional mentoring support from academics at the University of Nottingham.

This is a fixed term 36-month contract funded through a KTP award, a UK Government scheme, enabling graduates (KTP Associates) to work on exciting and challenging projects in a partnership between a business and a university. It is an opportunity to fast track your career by managing a strategic project that has the potential to transform the business.
