Applications are invited for the post of Knowledge Exchange Officer at Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College London, to start as soon as possible.

The Knowledge Exchange Officer will be responsible for initiating, fostering and supporting knowledge exchange activities between the academic community, government and business.

The postholder will facilitate the flow of information and expertise with stakeholders to ensure that our research meaningfully benefits society, industry, and policy in the UK and around the world.

Energy Futures Lab was founded in 2005 and is one of Imperial’s seven Global Institutes. Its aim is to develop multidisciplinary, cross-faculty collaborations to tackle the broad range of energy challenges that the world faces. The institute supports over 1,000 staff and students working on global energy challenges ensuring Imperial College London is a world leader across the whole energy sector.

This role would suit an ambitious individual with a deep knowledge of energy matters and have a proven track record of engaging with senior figures in business and government.

Duties and responsibilities

  • You will identify opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, and networking, both internally and externally, fostering an environment conducive to sharing information, ideas, and best practices

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with key partners, organisations, and industry professionals to facilitate knowledge transfer and collaboration opportunities.

  • You will develop and implement strategies to facilitate the exchange of knowledge within the College and with external partners.

  • Identify and accelerate collaborative research and impact opportunities with non-academic stakeholders, following on from Energy Futures Lab and other College publications and events.

  • Lead and develop links with key external organisations and promote the expertise of relevant academics and research groups, departments and schools to develop opportunities for innovation and impact.


Essential requirements

  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent professional experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence and diplomacy to interact with all levels of staff and with students

  • Ability to analyse problems and suggest constructive solutions

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with a methodical approach to responsibilities and attention to detail working with a high level of accuracy and to deadlines whilst in a pressurised environment

  • Good working knowledge of the UK energy sector, including major players, policies and trends

  • Proven ability to plan and manage a range of projects at any one time

  • Ability to be tactful and diplomatic in approach and able to deal with confidential matters with complete discretion

Hybrid working may be considered for this role.  Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
