The Role and Department   
The role is key in our team to ensure a smooth running of the food we provide to our children. This is a permanent position working alongside our nursery chef and nursery team.  The role includes working alongside our nursery chef preparing food for the children and ensuring any dietary and allergies requirements are met. It also includes general assistant tasks throughout the nursery such as laundry, cleaning tasks. Our nursery is for children aged 0-5 years in Durham City.

The hours are 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 12.45pm - 4.45pm, with occasional evening or weekends for training/staff meetings. There maybe occasional overtime to cover for staff holidays

Essential Criteria:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic digital skills including the ability to use core digital tools including internet email  
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.

  • Ability to manage time in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow instructions, written or oral, accurately.

    Service Delivery

    •    Complete a set of tasks/procedures within a team to deliver a service to customers.   
    •    Follow instructions from a supervisor to identify what and how to deliver a set of tasks or processes.    
    •    Learn the correct methods and tasks to undertake the role of Kitchen/General assistant.   
    •    Learn and adhere to general health, safety and security procedures.   
    •    Use a range of equipment, tools and resources, digital devices, software and applications where necessary.   
    •    Record and store information in a prescribed order.   
    •    Carry out basic administrative tasks under supervision.   
    •    Learn how to, and use manual and electronic everyday tools, equipment and applications to deliver services

    •    Support your team members daily and assist when instructed. 
    •    Assist team members to deliver an excellent student, staff or visitor service.
