Junior Teaching Laboratory Technician

The Department of Chemistry is looking for a Junior Technician to provide support and assistance in the effective maintenance and smooth running of the Teaching Laboratories.  They will be required to carry out a range of tasks from ensuring all equipment and items for experiments are clean and available when required, undertaking maintenance and supporting repair of equipment, good stock control of all chemicals, and to assist students with the experiments.  

You will support the outreach and work experience programmes, providing assistance to young people in the laboratory, ensuring compliance to health and safety at all times. You will be required to cover the reception for lunch and deal with queries as appropriate.

You will have a good training in Chemistry or a related subject (minimum A-level and ideally to degree level) or have equivalent experience. The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in a laboratory environment, and will have an understanding of Health and Safety, COSHH, and safe storage and use of chemicals. You will also need to be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from young children to academics. This post requires an enhanced DBS check.
