About the Role

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic person to specify, develop, improve, and deliver research software as part of a team working on a range of interesting technical challenges. The postholder will work on projects that will help progress University of Oxford projects aiming to improve patient care in hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity to experience or progress a career in research software engineering, in a friendly and dynamic research group with a track record of translation of research and development into practice and products.

You will be working with the Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) consortium, a large research group at the University of Oxford. MMM works closely with the NHS in Oxfordshire and beyond, with the University of Oxford’s Big Data Institute, and has close links with the UK Health Security Agency with several joint projects.

You need to work well in a diverse multi-disciplinary team and enjoy successfully completing challenging and rewarding projects. We will offer training to support the postholder to succeed in the job.

The post is full time and fixed term until 31st March 2025

About You

You will be writing new software that supports processing of research data and its interpretation, and that provides backends to web-based applications. Maintaining confidentiality of unpublished research data and related information and contributing to the production of scientific reports and publications. You will be developing software to communicate with pre-existing data access systems and generate bespoke reports. Identifying and troubleshoot technical problems, working collaboratively with other research software engineers, scientific programmers and researchers Ensuring that team members are kept up to date with progress and difficulties encountered, providing guidance and possible solutions

You will participate in and support the public engagement and widening access activities of the Department and the University. This is anticipated to be not more than 2 days per year.
