Contract type: Fixed-term/contract (12 months)
Lancaster University is seeking a highly motivated researcher to work on a project of developing semiconductor tuneable LEDs/lasers in mid-infrared spectral range. The project is funded by EU ATTRACT programme in collaboration with 5 partners from 4 different countries. The project aims to develop an advanced interband cascade quantum structures to enable widely tuneable LEDs/lasers operating in mid-wavelength infrared spectral range. The project requires a junior research with expertise in design, integration and optimising of semiconductor emitters with external cavity.
You should hold, or shortly expect to obtain, a PhD in Physics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. Experience is required in integrated photonics, design pf cavity, semiconductor infrared LED/laser devices, spectroscopic characterization.
You will be fully integrated into the Quantum Technology Centre (QTC) at Lancaster University where you will conduct design, integration and examination of the tunable light emitters with optical spectroscopies. You will conduct research both independently and in collaboration with other members in the centre and with external project partners. The project is initially funded for 12 months with possible extension subject to the further funding.
Please contact Dr. Qiandong Zhuang if you wish to have an informal discussion about this opportunity: Email: [email protected] .
You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is due to come to an end on 31st January 2024.
Lancaster’s QTC opened in 2014 and is embedded with the Department of Physics, which was ranked first and equal-first respectively in the 2008 and 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercises (RAE). In 2014 it was ranked second for its world-leading research publications in the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF). It is seeking to further enhance its scientific standing.
