This role

An opening has arisen to join the Teaching, Learning & Student IT Team, where you will be responsible for leading a high performing team of Developers and Analysts within our Campus Solutions Team. This is a senior role in the IT Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Head of Teaching, Learning & Student IT, required to ensure continued operation of the highly successful lecture capture service, the virtual learning environment and associated teaching and learning applications, and to develop new services to support Academics’ unique technology needs for Teaching and Learning.  The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, have experience of developing and implementing business proposals and driving innovative products and services. The ability to support customers is also essential, with the opportunity to work across a wide customer base throughout the University.

Specific Role Requirements

In addition to the Person Specification criteria detailed in this document, the successful applicant must have the following:-

Essential Knowledge in:

  • Experience working with or leading teams on large, complex systems (ERP or student administration systems, ideally PeopleSoft, especially Oracle Campus Solutions).
  • Experience of systems using a database as an information repository. (ideally Oracle)
  • Thorough understanding of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) methodologies.
  • Understanding of the ITIL service management practices (e.g. incident management, service request management, problem management).
  • Good understanding of technical IT issues to enable discussions with internal and external technical specialists.
  • Leading and mentoring Developers and Functional Analysts to foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation
  • Good communication skills and ability to engage with different types of stakeholder
  • Managing budgets

Additionally, desirable knowledge in:

  • Knowledge and experience with Oracle PeopleSoft/Campus Solutions
  • Experience with Oracle databases
  • You will have demonstrable experience of leading a software development team, and have proven examples of using agile processes. You will also have a solid technical background, with a firm understanding of software engineering, software and systems architecture.
