Job Description

• This position is for Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA).
• Oversee the implementation, deployment and operation of servers, databases, systems and technology solutions for Centre’s / ROSA’s needs.
• Design and implement the monthly SLP survey (programming, testing, coding and deploying) and monitor the daily survey responses for any anomalies.
• Keep survey web applications up to date by deploying application enhancements and patches and ensuring data confidentiality, integrity and availability.
• Ensure that ROSA’s servers, databases and systems are secured, backed up, highly available, serviceable and maintained.
• Liaise with University’s IT department to ensure compliance and make relevant changes to Centre’s IT systems as required.
• Perform regular checks, audits and maintenance of the Centre’s data security measures according to University’s policies and guidelines (e.g. Data Protection Officer).
• Provide day to day IT support for Centre operations and research teams (e.g. data access, install new statistical packages, upgrade licenses of software, import/export researchers’ data), advise on technical specifications for IT related procurement and administer Centre’s website.
• Ensure that timelines and milestones of IT-related projects are well planned, met and adhered to, providing timely updates on the progress of the projects.
• Manage vendors / service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective acquisition of technology purchases; oversee maintenance and service agreements.
• Monitor new technologies / releases / patches and make recommendations to continuously improve ROSA’s work processes and services.
• Ensure high quality of deliverables, and review vendors' / service providers’ deliverables.

Qualifications

• Degree / Diploma in IT / relevant field from a recognized university / institution.
• Proven relevant and recent (within 3 years) hands-on experience working specifically within the following environments and programme languages:
  • Management of Windows RDP (Remote Desktop Server)
    • To perform software installation and upgrades/ 2FA user management, technical support for researchers.
  • Coding survey questions in (JQuery, Javascript, HTML, HTML5)
    • To preform update of panel members who take the survey, troubleshoot and debug coding issues, liaise with vendor for technical issues.
  • Server management, including NAS management
    • To perform system and application administration, user identity & password management, access control management, backup/restore and disaster recovery, patch management, vulnerability assessment, technical and business evaluation, technical documentation, and procurement of hardware (if require) and maintenance.
  • Database management (MySQL)
    • To perform DB installation, configuration, upgrade, migration and patching.
    • DB & SQL design and development, job scheduling and monitoring, performance monitoring, security management, space management, troubleshoot, backup and disaster recovery, maintain DB related documentation.
  • Manage web applications in PHP (Drupal/Laravel framework), HTML, CSS, JavaScript- Both cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure) and on-premise setup, deployment, configuration and administration
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, conflict management, negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive self-starter who is quality conscious, attentive to details, result-driven and a team player.
