IT Business Analyst

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Bristol, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime

As a Business Analyst working for the University of Bristol, you will interact with a diverse group of people, looking to achieve ambitious end results, on an assorted collection of project initiatives. You will play a key role in ensuring that the University invests its time and money on the right solutions and for the right reasons.

You’ll act as a conduit between technical and policy experts, and the wider business, to assess the conditions and future goals of change initiatives, bringing together the relevant detail of the people, process and technology to inform decisions about how to address specific business problems and opportunities, linking business need, technical governance and policy guidance.

Working within IT Partnerships, a new and developing area of the IT department, you will contribute to an outward facing team that looks to steer and guide sponsors and stakeholders to help deliver IT change that provides business benefit and aligns with the University’s forward looking 2030 strategy.

You will work with a range of stakeholders from across the organisation to support the discovery, planning and delivery of a variety of change initiatives- from major building infrastructure change to new software, from innovative research projects to enhancing student experience.

As part of this you will be responsible for defining business problems, gathering requirements, understanding ‘as-is’ processes, articulating future state objectives and documenting business cases to evidence the benefits and return on investment of recommended solutions.

As projects move beyond discovery, you will be responsible for the ongoing management of requirements, assess change requests against the original goals of projects, support testing and ensure provision has been made for business sponsors to measure the ongoing benefits of projects.

In addition, you will manage and prioritise your workload, pragmatically assessing the viability and achievability of deliverables and communicate this assessment to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

You are an experienced Business Analyst who has a proven track record of utilising a broad BA skillset capable of taking a seed of an idea and turning it into a fully appraised recommendation for change that is shaped by business, technical and policy factors while being articulated through the lens of people, process and technology.

You are excited by a varied portfolio of work and thrive in a fast paced environment where priorities and demand can change on a regular basis and are keen to contribute to the growth of a newly-formed team and help shape the Business Analyst practice within IT.

You are a motivated, self-starter with an analytical mind and a passion for working with stakeholders to help them articulate their issues and needs.

Benefits of working for the University include-

  • 32 days of annual leave per year (plus bank holidays)
  • Automatic entry to an extremely generous pension scheme, with more than 14% employer contributions
  • Hybrid working environment
  • Inclusive culture, valuing the diversity of thought, beliefs and background
