This is a unique opportunity to join Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC), one of only a handful of specialist institutions in the UK focusing on professional training for the performing arts. You will play an essential part in the development and implementation of RBC's international strategy and the recruitment of its international students. With active partnerships in more than 40 countries, and more than a third of its students from overseas, RBC has an established and thriving international profile.

The Role

You will responsible for the development and management of international partnerships, the recruitment of international students, and the coordination of international artistic, academic and research activities, reporting to the Associate Principal. In turn, you will line manage the International Admissions Administrator, and oversee RBC's international network of exclusive agents. 

  • Coordinate and develop the recruitment of international students
  • Manage and develop partnerships with other music institutions around the world
  • Manage RBC’s exclusive recruitment agents
  • Line-manage RBC’s International Admissions Administrator 
  • Oversee the delivery of the Erasmus+ and Turing schemes at RBC
  • Coordinate mobility of staff and students with partner institutions overseas
  • Support academic scholars visiting from partner institutions
  • Support delivery of distance learning programmes and activities with selected partner institutions
  • Support international artistic, academic and research projects with partner institutions
  • Support international activities of RBC’s Senior Management Team and Heads of Departments
  • Apply for EU and international funding to support international activities
  • Contribute to the content of relevant marketing and promotion materials
  • Represent RBC at relevant international events like the AEC Congress 
  • Represent the University, Faculty and RBC on international business
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the role as designated by the Associate Principal

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

  • Educated to first degree level or equivalent
  • Outstanding English language skills
  • Outgoing, confident and tactful demeanour
  • Demonstrating awareness and tolerance of cultural diversity
  • Knowledge of classical music and other music genres
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent IT skills including advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software packages
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities on own initiative
  • Ability to undertake extensive travel and work independently whilst overseas
  • Ability to work successfully in a team

Desirable :

  • Educated to postgraduate degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience working in international relations in an educational context
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages: German, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish (not in order of importance)
  • Advanced knowledge of classical music and other music genres
