Lecturer (Physiotherapy) - Teaching & Scholarship

The School of Healthcare Sciences provides a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate education that directly improves health outcomes and healthcare for patients and families. This includes courses and research in Midwifery; Nursing (Adult, Child and Mental Health); Occupational Therapy; Physiotherapy; Perioperative Practice; and, Radiography (diagnostic and therapy)

The candidate will  deliver high-quality and research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals. To pursue excellence in research, teaching and enterprise and to inspire others to do the same. 

Across the three posts 12152BR, 12153BR and12154BR we are seeking staff who can develop key areas in the curriculum, including advanced practice, acute medical care and rehabilitation.  

The candidate will be required, as part of their probation, to undertake a relevant teaching qualification to ensure excellence in teaching, learning and assessment.

Salary is dependent on the skills and experience of the candidate. Candidates will be appointed at either:

£34,304 - £40,927 per annum, pro rata (Grade 6 )
or
£43,434  - £50,296 per annum, pro rata (Grade 7)

Job Description

Teaching

  • Design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team
Grade 7: independently contribute to module and course development and lead modules
  • Inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students.        
  • Supervise the work of students including the supervision of Undergraduate and Master’s students and the co-supervision of PGR’s
Grade 7: Acts as a PGR progress review panel member as required
  • Supply pastoral care through both acting as a Personal Tutor and providing support and guidance to students, building and establishing trust
Scholarship
  • Contribute to scholarship in the area of work through participation in  conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship 
  • Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
  • Contribute to scholarship through interdisciplinary working with individuals and teams within, and external to, the wider university community
  • Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking paper and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work
Other
  • To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally  to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile
  • To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance in the role of Lecturer
  • To mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
  • To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education
1.         Registered with the HCPC and a Postgraduate degree in a related subject area or relevant industrial experience.
Grade 7: Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or experience

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
2.         Teaching experience in physiotherapy education at undergraduate/postgraduate level
Grade 7: Significant experience
3.         Grade 7: Growing National reputation within academic field
4.         Demonstrate specialist knowledge in acute medical physiotherapy care, on call and/or rehabilitation, including physiotherapy for neurological conditions with demonstratable knowledge of current advancements within academic subject area.
5.         Ability to design, deliver and continuously develop modules across the Physiotherapy group and Schools teaching programmes.

Pastoral, Communication and Team Working
6.         Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex and conceptual ideas
clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and utilising a range of media
7.         The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor.
8.         Grade 7: Ability to act as module leader and co-ordinate with others to ensure student needs and expectations are met.

Other
9.         Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and teamworking within work

Desirable Criteria

10.       PhD and/or relevant professional qualification(s).
11.       Fluent in the Welsh Language and able to support learners in the Welsh language.
12.       Proven ability to work without close supervision
13.       Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.
14.       Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School.
15.       A willingness to take responsibility for academically related administration.
