The Center for Humane Technology (CHT), a Department of the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS), is a research center focusing on the future of technology, infrastructure, and society. The center is unique in Germany for bringing expertise in engineering, mathematics and natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, construction and environment, and medicine, together to address current societal challenges at the intersection of people, technology, society, and the environment. Our concerns are also to foster speculative intersectional practices that encourage sustainability, diversity, and social responsibility in the design and development of new technologies. The Center for Humane Technology (CHT) offers a position as

Interdisciplinary Navigator, humanities and social sciences (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until December 31, 2024. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). Balancing family and career is an important issue. Tasks:

As the one of five Interdisciplinary Navigator of the Center for Humane Technology, your role is to conduct research, communicate between the school of the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department, and develop programs and projects for the new center.

Your tasks will include:

  • 40% independent research connected to the research at the center
  • 20% communication and coordination
  • 40% grant and programmatic development
  • You will be asked to participate in both your own research which is thematically connected to the emerging center. Furthermore, you will envision, initiate and develop research projects and programs for the department. You will initiate, conduct or support and evaluate interdisciplinary exchange formats internally and externally. In addition to that you will support the Research Coordinator of the department with the extensive international exchange program, with data for the evaluation of the department and with condensing an overarching research compendium of the department.

    This position would be suitable for researchers interested in doing dissertation or habilitation work that is closely connected to the work at the emerging Center for Humane Technology.

    Requirements:

    A university degree at least a Masters (MFA, etc.) – if applicable - a PhD degree, preferably in the area of Design Studies, Science Technology Studies, Media Studies, History of Science or other relevant Humanities and Social Sciences or art and design practices linked to technology. We prefer candidates with relevant experience in project management. You should also have an interest in the field of science communication and interdisciplinary collaboration processes. You have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent English and good German language skills. The ability to work in a team and organizational talent as well as high motivation and initiative are indispensable prerequisites for the success of the department.
