The Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATIC) is a Research and Innovation Centre based in the Wales Institute of Science & Art at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Swansea https://www.uwtsd.ac.uk/atic

ATIC is a core component of ACCELERATE https://lshubwales.com/innovation-support/accelerate-wales , a multi-partner project part funded by the ERDF. The project provides collaborative R,D&I support for businesses, charities and the NHS in Wales to assist the development and realisation of innovative and commercially viable products, services and processes and to support the growth of the Life-Science Sector in Wales.

ATIC’s state of the art facilities can capture a broad spectrum of user metrics using an extensive range of modalities. Our dedicated UX Lab, one of first in a worldwide network of Noldus Reference Labs, has customisable spaces for experimental research to test the experiential and usability qualities of new clinical and healthcare products, services, systems and spaces. ATiC’s behavioural analysis, psychophysiological measurement and data capture facilities include Noldus Observer XT and FaceReader, Tobii eye tracking and Mindware systems. This is augmented with physical measurement systems including motion capture, pressure mapping, thermal imaging, 3D scanning, 3D printing and our extensive physical prototyping facilities.

ATiC is looking for a specialist Innovation Fellow (User Experience / Psychology) to join our multi-disciplinary team of artists, designers, engineers and scientists. With expertise in one or more of the following fields: User Experience (UX), Behavioural, Social and/or Biological and Cognitive Psychology, you will have demonstrable skills in the application of principles and research methods to the analysis and evaluation of user-experience and behaviour, ideally within an academic or commercial research and development environment.

The Role

The main purpose of the job is to provide specialist expertise in User Experience/Psychology to support ATiC’s commitment to improving people’s lives. Working with the team, you will liaise with external partners to identify their RD&I needs and design and develop experiments to capture, understand and evaluate individual user’s behaviours and interaction with new or existing products, services, processes, or places within the field of Health and Wellbeing.

The main responsibilities include:

• Working with the ATiC Director, Principal Innovation Fellow and Project Manager to contribute to the development of a portfolio of collaborative projects with Welsh companies in line with the objectives of the ACCELERATE programme.
• Providing specialist User Experience & Psychology research and analysis expertise as part of a multi-disciplinary team working on collaborative research, development and innovation projects.
• Working with the Technical Manager to ensure the safe installation, maintenance and operation of equipment in the ATiC UX Lab and offsite as and when required.
• Contributing to the monitoring and reporting requirements of ATIC.
