Operating at the forefront of the increasingly challenging field of information security, the main purpose of this job is to identify and protect against the threats and risks to Bournemouth University’s information security by developing policy and processes, auditing compliance, and providing expert consultancy to projects.

The successful candidate will report to the Information Security Officer and will be required to work in collaboration with the IT Executive team, IT Leadership team, Architects, Subject Matter Experts and all relevant BU staff and students to drive on-going enhancement of BU information security to protect the university from information-related threats. The Information Security Specialist will contribute to the current BU2025 strategy (and future strategies) and have lead responsibility for developing and implementing the operational plan that delivers against BU’s strategic requirements for information security and aligned wherever possible to industry best practice.

This role will manage the Information Security team who are responsible for information security policy, and the development and roll-out of a BU wide information security awareness and training programme.

Working collaboratively with colleagues within IT Services and across senior university stakeholders, the job holder will drive the embedment of information security protocols into IT Services’ developments and third-party procurements and implementations. The role is also responsible for ensuring that information security is imbedded as a key consideration and at the forefront of everything we do to ensure that all informational assets are adequately protected against past, current, and future risks and also in alignment to regulatory need and best practice.

Another important part of the role is the continued assessment and auditing of operational processes looking for gaps and working across the team and technical partners to deliver improvements that meet business needs whilst ensuring compliance to the universities security policies.
