Business Area and Mission

The goal of the Publishing Performance and Intelligence Group (PP&I) is to help deliver next generation digital publishing at Springer Nature and as a result, grow the number of published articles, especially in open access (OA). Working closely with the Journals Group, Production, IT, Marketing and Customer Service we will support increasing the number of transfers of articles between journals, commissioning new collections and strengthening editor engagement. As well as supporting and enhancing the end-to-end publishing process.

The Centre of Excellence (CoE) team aims to create and drive continuous improvement with PP&I teams and their respective stakeholders including Operations, Technology, Customer Services, Research Sales & Marketing, Finance, and others. We align, agree, plan and drive the implementation of new/improved workflows, processes, systems, and tools within the end-to-end publishing process.

Purpose of the Role

The Implementation Manager will, as part of the CoE team, provide excellent project management expertise across the SN Journals Portfolio to ensure strategically important workflow initiatives can be delivered in a timely and efficient way. They will ensure key SN journals stakeholders are well informed of project progress and workflow changes and will coordinate stakeholder engagement as needed.

Responsibilities

Provide project management support for the implementation of a variety initiative across the journals publishing pipeline

Support editorial, marketing and production teams as necessary to adopt new workflows and processes associated with transitioning journals onto platform(s) and systems.

Work closely with the journals publishing teams to ensure progress against initiatives is well communicated.

Provide project level reporting for the wider Journals business stream

Build close working relationships with key stakeholders in other internal divisions that control and/or develop the processes and systems we rely on, including: the JEO, the PCM team, the PWG team, PPG and Production

Provide project management and implementation support for key workflow initiatives across the Journals division.

Contribute to an overall project status tracker for all CoE activities

Serve as a key CoE spokesperson for projects being managed, clearly and convincingly communicating the aims to the wider business.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

A good understanding of the research publishing landscape and how journals and journal publishers serve the research community.

An understanding of the Nature and Springer brand values.

Excellent project and programme management experience.

A good understanding of the workflows and processes that underpin the submission-to-publication journey.

Experience in the successful transition of new technologies and workflows in a commercial environment.

Experience of negotiation; experience of successfully integrating customer and operational requirements.

Experience of change management.

Willingness, flexibility, creativity, and ambition to improve processes and workflows.

Experience with best-practice project management techniques.

Strong data analysis and reporting skills using MS Office.

Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.

Highly organised with strong project management skills.
