Job Summary

You will, under the supervision and in collaboration with the HAU Manager, will assist with the coordination and operation of the multi-disciplinary anatomical services facility to provide appropriate service to support the delivery of all undergraduate, postgraduate, and external teaching and where applicable, research programmes.

You will supervise the technical team and manage the day-to-day running of the facility and delivery of its commitments. The post holder will support the HAU manager in the management of the facilities and activities of the Unit, including the anatomy, clinical skills, and pathology teaching spaces.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the facility is fit for its purpose and ensure compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2004 and health and safety legislation.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Act as a Persons Designated under the Human Tissue Act 2004. Responsible for enforcing HTA legislation and ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with these regulations – ensuring a safe, secure, and compliant working environment.
  • Responsible for supporting the HAU manager in all responsibilities and covering these responsibilities in their absence.
  • Line management and supervisory responsibilities of the technical team and delegation of tasks.
  • Responsible for the oversight, development, and implementation of HTA and Health and Safety documentation.
  • Support the HAU Manager with all facility management responsibilities including, developing and implementing protocols, facilities bookings, specimen loans, disposals, timetabling, finance and invoicing duties, budgetary control duties, ordering, and stock control.
  • Responsible for the supervision, and delivery of the organisation, administration, and maintenance of all teaching, external training, and research activities of the Unit, in line with contractual and curriculum requirements.
  • Support the technical leads for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching courses.

Essential requirements

  • The candidate should have a qualification in (Anatomy/Biological Sciences) or equivalent vocational qualification or relevant laboratory-based experience.
  • Experience working at a senior technical level in an Anatomy teaching laboratory or similar environment.
  • Experience in line management.
  • Experience in embalming human donors for Anatomical Examination.
  • Experience in quality management and inventory management practices.
  • Working knowledge and experience of HTA regulations relating to Anatomical Examination and H&S regulations.
  • Working experience in the protocols and processes associated with the receipt, processing, curation, and disposition of human anatomical donations for educational purposes.
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours is required. Hours will be scheduled via a ROTA between 08:00 & 18:00hrs.
  • A reasonable level of fitness will be required because the post requires lifting with hoists and the manual handling of cadavers.

This post is full-time, open-ended contract and you be based onsite in Charing Cross Hospital Campus.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role.  Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
