Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Health Innovation Technician to set up, equip and run a Health Maker Space at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC) that will then transition to a new Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre in the second building on the National Health Innovation Campus in 2025.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a range of health innovation technologies to regional businesses interested in tech adoption and to support businesses with innovation projects.

The post holder will have knowledge and experience of the technologies driving innovation in the health and wellbeing sectors, from a range of fields, including medical devices, diagnostics and/or digital health. You will have awareness of the wider health sciences landscape and experience of working with entrepreneurial individuals and opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and run an interim Health Innovation Maker Space (HIMS) at the 3M BIC, which will then transfer to the new Health & Wellbeing Innovation Centre, including commissioning equipment, software, and consumables.
  • Work closely with the several partners, including the University of Huddersfield, Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber (formerly YH AHSN), Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust and other stakeholders to deliver a portfolio of technology adoption projects that will support the health and wellbeing sectors and drive innovation in healthcare.
  • Collaborate with entrepreneurs and business clients on health innovation technologies, such as:
    • AR/VR visualisation systems
    • Data analytics in health and MedTech
    • Proof of concept development
    • Electronics, software, and AI applications
    • Additive manufacturing
    • CAD software
  • Supervise the operational aspects of HIMS, ensuring safe and effective use of specialist equipment by members, businesses, and staff.
  • Oversee operation, maintenance, and safety of technologies within the Health & Wellbeing Innovation Centre/HIMS.
  • Collaborate with business engagement colleagues, academics, and stakeholders to deliver activities on time and within budget.
  • Identify opportunities to utilise broader University facilities.
  • Provide training and practical applications for the equipment and technologies, designing demonstrations and workshops for client organisations.
  • Represent the 3M BIC and the Health & Wellbeing Innovation Centre, once opened, at events, including tours to engage prospective members and clients.
  • Organise timely procurement of goods/materials and monitor budgetary requirements.
  • Adhere to policies on health & safety, data protection, and IT usage, offering advice to colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and a strategic team player with expertise in the application and communication of health innovation technologies within a business context.
