Head of Zebrafish Unit

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Location: London, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 29 Jun 2022

A fantastic opportunity for a senior technician or researcher looking to work in the Higher Education sector. Initially, this post will be heading a dedicated zebrafish unit, but it is planned that the postholder will become the Assistant Head of the overall Biological Research Facility (BRF) when it is opened following refurbishment. In addition to the routine aspects of the job, the postholder will have the opportunity to gain experience in and/or contribute to the design, creation and commissioning of an animal research unit. The Head of Zebrafish Unit will have the opportunity to apply for the post the Head of BRF if they meet the criteria for that position.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate experience and expertise in the breeding and maintenance of fish for research purposes under UK legislation, including knowledge of the legal requirements surrounding Home Office Licences, animal care and welfare, training and competency, and record keeping. They will need to demonstrate prior experience of management. As we re-establish our BRF, the postholder will gain broader practical and managerial responsibility for other species. Experience of rodent breeding and husbandry is therefore highly desirable.
