Deadline: 22 Apr 2024

INTERNAL APPLICATIONS ONLY, SECONDMENT OR 2 YEAR FIXED TEM CONTRACT

The Medical Sciences Division is seeking to appoint a Head of Technology as an internal secondment or fixed term contract for 2 years. This role arises from the recommendations of the 2022/23 IT Infrastructure Review, which recognised the need for focussed leadership to work both within divisions and across the wider University to identify, prioritise, develop, and oversee the implementation of shared services which are shared across more than one division.

Within the

Medical Sciences Division

the Head of Technology would work closely with

MSD IT Services

, taking a complementary and collegiate approach to ensure that the shared services initiative offers additional opportunities in the interests both the Division and the wider University.

This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual, as a key component of the role will be to facilitate the cultural change which will allow the Medical Sciences Division to embrace the opportunities offered by greater sharing of services across the wider University. A demonstrable understanding of the challenges and requirements of IT service provision in a large organisation, and experience of supporting effective shared service solutions is key.

In addition, you are able to think and plan strategically and possess the creativity required to identify, scope, and implement solutions to support the business requirements of a complex organisation. Significant experience in delivering IT infrastructure services and technology change initiatives at a senior level is also a requirement. Strategic knowledge of emerging and best practice methodologies, technologies, and standards for the delivery of IT services is essential, as is experience of developing successful business cases for funding.

Educationally, you will ideally have a degree or equivalent, along with the strategic knowledge of emerging and best practice methodologies, technologies, and standards for the delivery of IT services. You will also have excellent organisational skills along with the ability to communicate effectively and convey complex topics to staff at all levels of the University. You will also have demonstrable experience of leading and developing teams comprising technical professionals.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 22 April 2024 will be considered.
