Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 20 Mar 2024

Job Description:

This is an important and exciting role providing an opportunity for an engaged and experienced leader to join our Academic Registry team at a university known for its values, friendliness and vision to change lives for the better.

Academic Registry provides a range of services that underpin the student journey, the curriculum journey, academic governance, student casework and quality assurance. We are also responsible for business processes, data governance and registry systems and the delivery of statutory and regulatory returns. The department is structured into three services areas, each with a ‘Head’ providing leadership for their area and working together to realise an excellent student, graduate and staff experience. These areas are currently defined as: -

  • Student Records, Returns and Systems (SRRS)
  • Quality and Academic Services (QAS)
  • Student Casework Unit (SCU)

We work collaboratively with faculties, other professional service departments, the Students Union and our partners, in the provision of our services. Our largest offices are at the University’s Pontypridd campus, with shared office spaces at Cardiff and Newport. Like many organisations we have embraced the opportunities of hybrid working, offering flexible approaches to working.  Academic Registry colleagues spend around two days a week in the office and work from home for the other working days, coming together on campus more often when necessary for operational delivery or meetings.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of student administration at the University, leading the delivery of an excellent student experience. They will need to have experience in at least one of the key areas of the role, namely, student data, reporting, returns, systems; timetabling; curriculum and course management; student records/administration. We are looking for someone who is student focused and can demonstrate a commitment to service improvement and innovation.

As one of three heads in the department, the role-holder will provide leadership to the Student Records, Returns and Systems (SRRS) team, working with the other heads and managers to deliver operations as well as leading change and continuous improvement. They will be the University’s expert for student records operations, statutory returns, student data requirements and Registry’s systems, supported by three managers in the delivery of these services. The role involves managing a high level of coordination and communication across teams, both within SRRS and the wider Academic Registry, as well as ensuring the interfaces with faculties and their subject areas, and other professional services are effective and optimal in delivering high performance and an excellent student experience. This will require an experienced leader and manager, comfortable with matrix management, with effective communication and interpersonal skills and a positive proactive approach.

If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges.
