Duties and responsibilities

The post of Head of Research Security will develop strategy, and formulate policy and process, to enable a duly informed and responsible approach to research security, including compliance with export and trade control legislation. As a senior member of the Imperial’s central Research Office, the role holder’s primary objective will be to promote and facilitate a security-conscious approach to research that is sensitive to the global context and protective of both the University’s academic independence and integrity.

Essential requirements

The candidate should demonstrate an excellent knowledge and understanding of the research security environment, including export controls and the core regulations underpinning UK legislation, ideally combined with direct experience of policy implementation.  It is also preferable, but not essential, that the candidate should have gained previous experience of working in the HEI sector, and be educated to degree level (or equivalent).  Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to work independently, with a high degree of integrity on complex and sometimes sensitive matters.
