We have a new opportunity for a Head of Project Support and Operations to work within a key role aiming to extend, enable and influence the Parasites and Microbes (PaM) Programme science as well as providing the professional interface between our faculty and our internal and external stakeholders enabling and accelerating the delivery of PaM scientific strategy in order to maximise the impact of our scientific research.

The Role:

You will be responsible for leading all core (non-Faculty) teams in the Parasites and Microbes Programme, and contributing towards delivering the overall Programme of research. You will be accountable for the operational and financial management of the PaM Programme and responsible for supporting Head of Programme in identifying strategic opportunities and delivering programme vision.  You will be providing strategic and operational perspectives to Head of Programme, particularly in relation to internal changes and opportunities and setting strategic goals, providing progress reports and identify operational risks. You will be responsible for developing structure that is fit for purpose and flexible to allow our science to grow and develop and working with the Head of Programme and Faculty team to ensure appropriate support frameworks exist to support delivery of the science.  You will be responsible for understanding the funding landscape and identifying large scale or strategic opportunities for the Programme and to lead and influence change and improvements within delegated area of responsibility.


Essential Skills

Technical Skills:  

  • Experience of working in a leading International research setting and/or leading global project deliveries
  • Good financial management and resource management skills
  • Success in leading and implementing programmes of change
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective project documentation to a high standard, including project initiation, funding, and communications plans 
  • Experience of operations management including responsibility for budgets, resources and planning 
  • High level of competency with IT systems, productivity software tools and applications 
  • Ability to improve operational efficiency, and deliver approach of continuous improvement to ensure support is effective and appropriate
  • Proven and significant experience in a management role with line management responsibility of administrative as well as scientific staff
