In August 2022, as a result of the University of Exeter’s re-structure, the Law School became part of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This organisational change aims at improving interdisciplinary collaboration between various disciplines in these fields, whilst providing departments with more autonomy. Simultaneously, the new research strategy of the University of Exeter emphasises the key relevance of the theme of Social Justice, where the Law School could provide core contribution and leadership.

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Head of our Law School to lead and develop this important discipline over the next period in the University's growth and development. We are looking to attract a Professor to provide both strategic and operational leadership to build on our existing reputation for research and educational excellence, nationally and internationally. In the recent REF 2021 we have made excellent progress in impact (90% classified as world-leading) and environment (13% classified as world-leading, 88% as internationally excellent), as well as maintained a very good record on outputs (35% classified as world-leading, 33% as internationally excellent). We look to build on this robust base of top quality outputs and impact, supported by external funding, and further ensure innovative, enthusiastic and collaborative research culture. Our Law School has more than 75 academic and research staff and we tend to attract more than 400 students to our undergraduate programmes annually. We currently hold TEF Gold Award and are dedicated to delivering a curriculum that is inclusive, supportive, rigorous, interesting and pedagogically-sound.

About you

As the senior academic in the discipline and sitting on the Faculty Executive Board, you will have previous experience of providing successful leadership and management, be a leading international figure with the ability to attract world-class academics to the University to foster and develop the Law School's existing track record for excellence in research and education.
