Lead our English Tutor Team! Ensure top-notch delivery of English and Academic Skills modules on all courses, following agreed standards and curriculum. Manage assessment modes, striving for optimal student outcomes and experience. Design and oversee the delivery of these modules to foster academic excellence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Lead and motivate a team of Academic Tutors to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience on English and Academic Skills courses and modules.
  • Provide effective performance management of direct reports, including setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing performance; and conducting formal performance reviews according to company policy and procedures.
  • Recruit new academic staff for English and Academic Skills courses and modules as required and according to Study Group policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure that all academic staff teaching English and Academic Skills have appropriate background checks, and references and are suitably qualified to teach sessions and courses for which they are scheduled.
  • Facilitate, encourage and support staff to participate in regular personal development activity.
  • Lead the centre’s work to promote academic integrity, including the avoidance of plagiarism and academic impropriety.
  • Work with the Academic Administration team to ensure lessons are appropriately covered when Academic Tutors are absent.
  • Oversee the recording and reporting of teaching and assessment activity, including ensuring data is submitted accurately and within deadlines. 
  • Liaise with External Examiners for English, and Academic Skills, providing information to External Examiners as required.
  • Analyse, respond to and plan and implement actions as a result of External Examiner feedback and recommendations. 
  • Preparation of new courses and modules in English, and Academic Skills for approval, and existing courses for re-approval.
  • Proposing course changes to the relevant Study Group or University committee or group. 
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key academic contacts at the University for English, and Academic Skills, ensuring a full understanding of relevant University curriculum content, assessment modes and quality policies and procedures.
  • Ensure effective interaction between University staff and academic staff for English and Academic English Skills to facilitate the best possible transition for students.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Relevant Teaching qualification (e.g. DELTA, TEFL, MA Linguistics)
  • Leadership experience in a teaching and learning environment 
  • Experience of leading a team or projects to achieve high levels of student academic performance.
  • Experience of teaching English to international students in UK Higher Education
  • Experience of planning and running complex education courses in the English and Academic Skills area.
  • Experience of leading the provision of academic skills within a HE environments
  • Experience of supporting international students
