  • Full time, 3-year fixed term position as Head of Department, Chemical and Environmental with underlying continuing position at Level D or E
  • Salary Academic Level D ($155,691 - $171,521) or Level E ($200,550) with leadership allowance + 17% Superannuation
  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus

About You
As the Head of Department and Associated Dean for Chemical and Environmental Engineering, you will be responsible for providing strategic and scholarly leadership for all activities within the Department, including both research, and learning and teaching.

The School of Engineering is looking to appoint a leader in Chemical and Environmental engineering and welcomes applicants with a focus on environmental engineering and related areas. The position will offer the opportunity to lead the future strategic vision for the department, as well as innovate, influence, facilitate, manage, and implement change.

The strategic plans for the School will see additional budgetary control and decision making transfer into each Department. This is designed to provide Departments with more autonomy and enable them to make local decisions, as well as enhance innovation in teaching and research activities.

The Department is ranked highly both nationally and globally and has leading academic staff, including 2 Future Fellows, 2 DECRA Fellows and 1 Vice Chancellor's Senior Research Fellow. The Department hosts an ARC Training Centre as well as the TREMS Research Hub. Collaborative links with industry also continue to be our major source of research activity.

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

  • Strong academic leadership and management skills with demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver on strategic objectives.
  • Established research record in a relevant discipline, with demonstrated capacity to lead and promote excellence in research.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of industry priorities.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication, influencing and negotiating skills including the ability to consult, network and build relationships within the organisation and externally.

Mandatory qualifications
PhD in relevant field, combined with knowledge and achievements that meet the associate professor or professor criteria.

About the School
The School of Engineering is one of the largest Engineering Schools in Australia. It has over 350 staff and 7000 students, including 750 HDR students.
